Global Data Systems recognizes that project management encompasses the process of assessing project requirements and as well as defining, planning, estimating, monitoring, and reporting project details. To implement this process in a consistent, high-quality manner, GDS Project Managers follow the SmartIT Project Management Methodology. Based on world-class standards, SmartIT PM is designed to address the critical success factors of any IT project: risk management, scope of work, resource requirements, change, and acceptance. Using these success factors as guidelines, the project plan and approach is custom-tailored to the Client's specific project requirements, regardless of project size or complexity. With SmartIT PM, project plans are structured so that the Client’s management can adjust the direction of the project using logical decision points.
Smart IT PM’s foundation is based upon two world-class standards: ISO 9001, which establishes standards and guidelines for IT deployments, and the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) from the Project Management Institute (PMI) that manages the process for delivering projects within a deployment. PMBOK establishes nine core functions of project management with five processes.
These processes are applied to each of the functions, which help control project constraints of time, quality, and cost. Global Data Systems infuses the core functions and processes with a five-step project management methodology that performs these five functions:
