Client Business Need/ Problem:
A statewide government agency supports a communications infrastructure that supplies network communications, video surveillance, and alarm monitoring capabilities across a statewide fiber optic network. Additionally, this network provides traffic signal monitoring where required and provides traffic flow data to area media entities. The existing network infrastructure is dated and needs to be replaced to increase the amount of available throughput, provide improved availability, and improved performance to keep pace with the demands of this communications infrastructure.
GSD Solution:
GDS delivered a solution that supplied the capacity and throughput that the agency required. It increased their visibility into the network infrastructure, expanded management capabilities, and established the framework around future expansion. The solution implemented was built around 12 Cisco ONS 15454 Multi-service platforms with a 13th as a spare. The build-out improved communications throughput from OC-12 to OC-48/OC-192.
GDS supplied all of the pre-sales and post-sales implementation service to properly stage, pre-configure, and implement the solution. Additionally, as a result of the project, GDS now actively monitors the implemented solution 24x7x365 via a managed services contract specific to the Cisco ONS 15454 devices.
Result:
The solution will provide the necessary increase bandwidth and network availability requirements needed for current and future needs. The end result and predicated the agency to review the possibility of expanding upon the original project to utilize even higher throughput capabilities available through Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing.
