GDS is an Industry Leader in Customized Hard-to-Reach Communications Solutions!

GDS can consult on a solutions path for designing and implementing a hard-to-reach communications solution anywhere on planet Earth.  Whether on an oil platform in the Gulf of Mexico, an inland work boat, or a cruise ship enjoying down-time, staying connected — especially in remote areas — has never been more critical.

The satellite industry has developed dramatically over recent years, both in terms of capability and its image. The satellite 'facelift' of course mainly culminates around High Throughput Satellite (HTS). The technology means that more people can access services via satellite than ever before, but, perhaps more importantly it means that satellite is suddenly a viable alternative to other types of connection, especially in those hard to reach areas. This in turn has led to a veritable explosion in service provision, giving our industry the chance to shine, but not without a few hurdles.

For operators, asset owners and services providers, GDS currently delivers comprehensive onshore and offshore communications services built on our own converged and secure network. We offer fully managed services with fixed, mobile and quick-deploy applications for anywhere and everywhere you operate.

The VSAT Story.  The Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) market is already a high volume market, providing communications to remote areas for a whole range of different services, such as oil & gas, maritime, environmental monitoring, e-learning, disaster recovery, cellular backhaul, to name but a few.

The emergence of HTS makes those terminals all the more efficient and reliable. As such, HTS has already having an impact on VSAT deployments. That is set to increase further, with Northern Sky Research estimating that the broadband VSAT market will reach $10 billion by 2021. IT Market Research Reports estimate that the enterprise VSAT market will grow at a CAGR of 10.49% between 2015 and 2018.

GDS provides vital land and satellite communications services over a robust platform engineered expressly for users in hard-to-reach places with focus on:

  • Crew Morale.  Keep them entertained with our full portfolio of live and on-demand programming. Give them access to hundreds of TV channels and popular movies, plus live special events, from any device — all on a platform engineered to minimize bandwidth consumption.
  • Network Monitoring.  Gain high visibility into all your networks and actively manage bandwidth usage and QoS with our proprietary asset tracking and other powerful network diagnostics tools we specifically engineered for remote offshore communications networks.

Gulf Offshore Logistics has been working with GDS for approximately 5 years. It all began when GOL had plans to build a Dock facility in Fourchon to support Deep Water Operations in the Gulf of Mexico. The facility was designed to accommodate 12 potential oil field companies with office space, warehouse space, and three land based stationary cranes. The plan was to implement a state-of-the-art voice, data, and video network which would give GOL the ability to manage the customer’s various needs with phone and data communications as well as have the video security needed to protect their assets and assist in safety initiatives. It was then that GOL turned to GDS for guidance in planning and implementing this network because of their experience and quick detailed advice in the early development stages of the project.  Click here for the full case study with Gulf Offshore Logistics.

“In my Opinion, GDS has exceeded our satisfaction expectations with assisting in our I.T. goals.”
